DESCRIPTION:Workshop participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the importance of clinical governance in wound management inclusive of scope of practice\, policy\, evidence-based practice\, inter-professional practice and consumer engagement. \nThe workshop content includes: \n\nClinical Governance in Wound Management\nDressing Product Workshop\nConservative Sharp Wound Debridement\nWound Assessment\nOverview of Common Wound Types; including Diabetic Foot Ulcers\, Skin Tears and Skin Ulcers\n\nRegarding dressing products\, the generic properties and guidelines for use of commonly used dressing products for the management of acute and chronic wounds will be discussed. Clinical methods of application will be demonstrated which will allow participants to examine the products. Participants will use clinical case histories and moulage wounds to actively apply this information to assess a wound\, determine the goals of care and select appropriate dressings for the wound. \nThe Conservative Sharp Wound Debridement workshop will review the principles of wound debridement (indications for and contraindications) and discuss associated scope of practice issues that underpin debridement. Participants will learn essential clinical skills to undertake conservative sharp wound debridement by using sharp instruments to debride pig skin to reveal underlying anatomical structures of pig’s trotters. \nAn overview of commonly seen chronic wounds such as diabetes related foot ulcers\, skin tears\, pressure injuries and leg ulcers will be provided. Key physiological\, assessment and management parameters will be discussed.

DESCRIPTION:The Doctors’ Health Advisory Service (DHAS) of Western Australia (WA) has great pleasure in inviting you to join us at the 2019 Australasian Doctors Health Conference (ADHC) in Perth on 22 and 23 November 2019. \nThese conferences have been held biennially in Australia and New Zealand for nearly 20 years\, with 2019 being the first time the event will take place in WA. \nThe theme is the important topic of “Creating a Healthy Workplace”. This will be relevant to doctors at all stages of their career\, from medical students\, to doctors in training\, to doctors established in their chosen career. A particular focus will be looking at the impact of the work environment on a doctor’s health\, be they a solo private practitioner or working in a large tertiary hospital. Issues will include the effect of medical culture on work life balance\, bullying and harassment\, and physical and mental health problems. It is suitable a wide range of workers and volunteers\, such as health / SEWB / education / youth / family support workers\, liaison officers\, night patrol staff\, etc.\nThe course is fun\, we learn though group activities\, and do our best to make it culturally safe. Facilitated by experienced interprofessional emergency medicine clinicians\, participants will have to opportunity to refresh their skills in the management of the critically ill trauma patient. Consolidating the crucial principles of trauma management through skills interactive case discussions\, participants will have the opportunity to practice and hone their skills in essential trauma procedures including vascular access\, chest drain insertion skills stations\, bringing it all together in immersive simulation scenarios.

In addition\, healthcare workers may be unsure of how to approach discussing these concerns with clients. In this webinar\, Dr Sara Farnbach will present research findings conducted with Aboriginal men in residential treatment rehabilitation services and primary healthcare workers on speaking about substance use and depression in primary healthcare. The webinar aims to inform practice for healthcare workers who work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in primary health care settings and provide information to researchers working around substance use and depression. \nThe webinar will run for approximately 40 minutes\, and is free to attend.
