SUMMARY:Diagnosis and Treatment of PTSD in Emergency Service Workers
DESCRIPTION:This workshop has been designed with a focus on GPs\, to diagnose patients with acute stress disorder\, post-traumatic stress disorder and other comorbidities. Evidence based guidelines will be used as the foundation to appropriately diagnose and identify treatment pathways including recommended referrals\, trauma focused psychological therapy and psychological first aid to help support their management of emergency service workers. SUMMARY:ASHM webinar on Monkeypox
DESCRIPTION:ASHM has been made aware of an increased number of cases mainly overseas (including Europe and the USA) with two confirmed cases in Australia of monkeypox\, a rare zoonotic viral infection. From some early reports\, recent cases have been detected in gay\, bisexual and men who have sex with men\, anecdotally some presenting through sexual health services.\nIt is not considered to be an STI\, however differential diagnosis is important.\nGeneral populations should be also considered at risk and per WHO guidance for testing\, infection control and treatment. SUMMARY:Foundational Understanding of Intimate Partner Sexual Violence (Online)
DESCRIPTION:This is a foundational professional development workshop tailored for practitioners in the domestic\, family and sexual assault sectors.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\nIntimate partner sexual violence (IPSV) is a tactic of domestic violence (DV). IPSV is the intentional perpetration of sexual acts without consent in intimate relationships (including cohabiting and non-cohabiting partners\, as well as boyfriends\, girlfriends and dates). It includes sex obtained by physical force or psychological/emotional coercion or any unwanted\, painful or humiliating sexual acts. IPSV also includes tactics used to control decisions around reproduction\, and can include image-based abuse or forced watching of pornography. \n\n\nIPSV is a significant indicator of escalating frequency and severity of DV. Studies of IPSV show higher incidences of threats to kill an intimate partner than in other abusive relationships. IPSV also puts someone at a much higher risk of being killed\, particularly if they are also being physically assaulted. \nProviding freely given consent for sexual activity within the context of the perpetration of DV\, is\, arguably\, not possible. This is because the perpetration of DV creates a climate of ongoing fear or control. Research suggests that people experiencing DV cannot safely negotiate contraception or sex and may submit to sex to prevent the escalation of physical violence. \nDFV and sexual assault services and responses are often separate and underpinned by different funding models\, mandates\, goals and practice frameworks. As IPSV victims or survivors present with intersecting issues and diverse needs\, both types of services report IPSV as a particularly challenging issue which increases the complexity of providing appropriate service responses. \nStudies have shown a lack of attention to IPSV in both DFV and sexual assault services\, with some workers in DFV and sexual assault services feeling that IPSV is more compatible with the work of those in the other field. Consequently\, women experiencing IPSV are often not accessing the most appropriate support to enhance their safety\, wellbeing and recovery. \nThis workshop will familiarise practitioners with the nature and dynamics of sexual violence within relationships. Participants will learn of the institutional\, social and economic structures\, and social and cultural norms that are the conditions of IPSV. Participants will also be introduced to potential approaches to improve help-seeking for women experiencing IPSV and be provided with a variety of practice strategies to help professionals support their clients. \nDetails: \nOnline event. Prior to joining WESNET Joanna worked as a domestic violence solicitor at Djirra (previously known as the Aboriginal Family Violence Prevention Legal Service Victoria)\, civil law/family law solicitor at Legal Aid NSW\, domestic violence solicitor at Women’s Legal Service QLD and Early Intervention Family Law Solicitor/ Domestic Violence Solicitor at the Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre. Joanna has extensive experience working directly with clients who have experienced domestic and/ or family violence and assisting them with the legal issues that arise as a result of experiencing this abuse. Joanna provided face to face legal advice\, casework assistance and court advocacy in the legal areas of family law\, child protection\, domestic violence orders\, debt and victims compensation. \nAs a part of her legal roles Joanna provided regular training and community legal education to a variety of groups about various legal topics in relation to domestic violence. These groups included community members\, domestic violence frontline workers\, community service providers\, the police and various companies and corporations. Joanna ran a financial abuse project at the Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre called the ‘Walking Together’ project in which she assisted women who had experienced or were experiencing financial abuse move towards economic independence. As well as providing advocacy and casework assistance Joanna developed and delivered a resource and training package which highlighted the data of the project and the recommendations for credit providers when working with women who had experienced financial abuse. \nJoanna joined the WESNET team at the end of 2021 and since then has worked with various stakeholders including victim service providers\, telecommunication providers\, financial institutions\, corporations\, financial institutions\, technology companies and policymakers to improve safety and privacy for victims of intimate partner violence by assisting with policy development\, development of training\, delivering training and providing consultation.

We will discuss how DFV perpetrators commonly misuse social media and what can be done to support victim-survivors. No other recordings will be undertaken or are authorised. \n  \nPresented by: \nJo Colautti\, Technology Safety Specialist for WESNET \nJoanna Colautti is a Technology Safety Specialist for WESNET where she provides training and technical advice on technology safety issues to front-line service providers. Prior to joining WESNET Joanna worked as a domestic violence solicitor at Djirra (previously known as the Aboriginal Family Violence Prevention Legal Service Victoria)\, civil law/family law solicitor at Legal Aid NSW\, domestic violence solicitor at Women’s Legal Service QLD and Early Intervention Family Law Solicitor/ Domestic Violence Solicitor at the Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre. Joanna has extensive experience working directly with clients who have experienced domestic and/ or family violence and assisting them with the legal issues that arise as a result of experiencing this abuse. Joanna provided face to face legal advice\, casework assistance and court advocacy in the legal areas of family law\, child protection\, domestic violence orders\, debt and victims compensation. \nAs a part of her legal roles Joanna provided regular training and community legal education to a variety of groups about various legal topics in relation to domestic violence. These groups included community members\, domestic violence frontline workers\, community service providers\, the police and various companies and corporations. Joanna ran a financial abuse project at the Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre called the ‘Walking Together’ project in which she assisted women who had experienced or were experiencing financial abuse move towards economic independence. As well as providing advocacy and casework assistance Joanna developed and delivered a resource and training package which highlighted the data of the project and the recommendations for credit providers when working with women who had experienced financial abuse. \nJoanna joined the WESNET team at the end of 2021 and since then has worked with various stakeholders including victim service providers\, telecommunication providers\, financial institutions\, corporations\, financial institutions\, technology companies and policymakers to improve safety and privacy for victims of intimate partner violence by assisting with policy development\, development of training\, delivering training and providing consultation.

DESCRIPTION:This workshop has been designed with a focus on GPs\, to diagnose patients with acute stress disorder\, post-traumatic stress disorder and other comorbidities. Evidence based guidelines will be used as the foundation to appropriately diagnose and identify treatment pathways including recommended referrals\, trauma focused psychological therapy and psychological first aid to help support their management of emergency service workers.
