SUMMARY:Injury Matters online workshop – Supporting People after a Road Crash
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 has had an impact on the mental health and well-being of older adults in Western Australia. Social isolation is a continuing problem for older adults and may lead to loneliness. Social isolation is the absence of relationships with family and friends on an individual level and with society on a broader level. Good mental health contributes greatly to an overall feeling of well-being. Untreated mental health disorders in older adults can lead to diminished functioning\, substance abuse\, poor quality of life\, and increased mortality. \nJoin Injury Matters with guest speaker Deb Reveley from Brain Ambulance as we chat through the current evidence on the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of older adults in WA\, and the interventions we as health professionals can promote for healthy ageing and reducing the impact of social isolation. \nThis session aims to: \nIncrease awareness of the impacts of COVID-19 on the mental health of older adults in Western Australia.\nIncrease knowledge of the mental health issues facing older adults in Western Australia.\nIncrease knowledge of the interventions to promote healthy ageing and reduce the impact of social isolation and loneliness.\nIncrease knowledge of barriers for older adults seeking assistance and intervention.\nIncrease knowledge of referral points for older adults requiring intervention.\nWho can attend? \nThis webinar is suitable for public health and health promotion professionals\, mental health advocates and professionals\, aged care workers\, support workers\, allied health workers\, and community services or organisations that work with older adults in the community setting. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Getting to the bottom of bowel screening - Webinar Series
DESCRIPTION:Encouragement and support by GPs and practice nurses\, can have significant impact on improving participation in bowel cancer screening; evidence shows that a recommendation by a trusted health professional is a key motivator to participate. Part two will address the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program\, including the efficacy of the FOBT in average risk populations\, advice on answering questions around age eligibility and appropriate management of patients with a family history of bowel cancer; and case studies addressing challenging patients’ cases and how they can be managed. \nOn the morning of Wednesday 31 August an email will be sent to registered attendees which will contain a link to join the webinar. You will be able to join the webinar by clicking the link. Please note time the webinar will start at 6.00pm AWST\, 7.30pm ACST\, and 8.00pm AEST. \n5 minutes – Welcome and introductions\n40 minutes – Presentations \nProfessor Jon Emery- General Practitioner & Herman Professor of Primary Care Cancer Research\, University of Melbourne\nProfessor Mark Jenkins – Epidemiologist & Director of the Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics\, University of Melbourne.\n15 minutes – Questions & discussion \nLearning outcomes\nState the efficacy of the iFOBT as a tool for screening average risk population\nSummarise the current screening strategies for people with a family history of bowel cancer\nDescribe the appropriate management of the difficult patient cases presented \nThis activity is pending accreditation under ACRRM PDP\, and the RACGP CPD Program – Activity ID: 362240 \nhttps://NBCSP2.eventbrite.com.au
