DESCRIPTION:The Autism Association of Western Australia is partnering with the WA Health Sector and has developed training packages and resources to increase Autism awareness within the health sector.\nThe ultimate aim of this initiative is to improve access to health care and the health outcomes for individuals with Autism\, in line with the WA Disability Health Framework 2015-2025\, and the National Disability Insurance Scheme. \nThe training package aims to improve awareness of the specific needs of individuals with Autism\, their families and carers\, amongst the health workforce. This 4 hour face-to-face training has been specifically designed for those working in both the medical and dental fields\, and topics will include:\nThe characteristics of Autism\, and the diagnostic criteria.\nHow to best support patients with Autism.\nHow pain is processed differently in people with Autism.\nPositive behaviour support and managing challenging behaviours in the medical/dental setting.\nKey considerations when discharging or referring a patient with Autism.\nAvailable services in the community for people with Autism.\nStrategies and resources to use when seeing patients with Autism in an inpatient and outpatient setting. \nTime Schedule\n12 pm – 12.30 pm: Lunch\n12.30 pm – 1 pm: Registration & Networking\n1 pm – 5 pm: Training\n5 pm – 5.30 pm: Q&A / Networking
