Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) legislation has been passed in Western Australia, with implementation taking place on 1st July 2021. VAD is intended to provide people with another choice at end of life and after progressing through a detailed request and assessment process, allows an eligible person to legally access medication that will cause their death. The term ‘voluntary assisted dying’ emphasises the voluntary nature of the choice of the person and their enduring capacity to make this decision.

In June 2021, PaSCE provided an update, introducing health professionals to the VAD process and Statewide Navigator service. Join us, to hear from the Department of Health End of Life Care Program with an overview of Voluntary Assisted Dying 3 weeks into the legislation.
