Allied Health Breakfast Series – Kalgoorlie

18 April 2024 @ 7:00 am - 8:00 am

The GOHPN is excited to release the next installment of our Allied Health Breakfast, with local Occupational Therapist,  Monique Loos from Spot On Therapy.

The purpose of this event is to bring together local allied health professionals and foster a stronger and more cohesive community.

This month we have local Occupational Therapist, Monique Loos.

“FASD – Fetal Alcoholic Spectrum Disorder”

Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) refers to the range of problems caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol (exposure to alcohol during pregnancy).

We will be talking about the effects of alcohol on a fetus and how Occupational Therapists assist in terms of intervention, referral processes, assisting with accessing the NDIS, what facial characteristics and the symptoms impact on overall developmental skills when a child is referred. It is very common for a child with FASD to be overlooked and possibly diagnosed misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all.
We will relate all of the above to the following factors associated with FASD
• harm to the development of the fetal nervous system, including the brain
• under-nourishment of the growing baby
• in some cases, triggering changes in the development of the baby’s face, resulting in certain facial features.

In addition to Monique’s presentation, we have set aside time for networking and open discussions. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with your fellow allied health professionals, exchange ideas, and collaborate on future projects.
